Patricia
Pokladnik has always enjoyed the field of art since
she was a small child. She began studying art at the age of
six. When she was in junior high she studied commercial art
at the Art Institute of Dallas. For 10 years she had private
art lessons from the famous Dallas artist, Olin Travis, who
is now deceased but is considered one of the top 10 famous Texas
artists. In 1966 she received her degree in the field of interior
design from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX. She
continued her instruction during and after her graduation from
international famed designer, Gerald Tomlin. Patricia was accepted
as a professional designer in the American Institute of Interior
Designers (AID) in 1971 which later became known as the American
Society of Interior Designers (ASID) and in 1975 she opened
up her own interior design business. She has also been a registered
interior designer with the State of Texas since 1993.
Patricia has successfully completed numerous homes from the
size of a small room to as large as a 30,000 sq ft home. She
specializes in traditional, transitional, eclectic and contemporary
but enjoys designing in all styles. She has designed homes in
various states such as Texas, Arkansas, Kansas, Virginia, and
South Carolina.
She has designed many commercial jobs such as a National Hdqts
in Washington, DC., Law Firms, Brokerage Firms, Dental Offices,
Dental Laboratories, corporate offices, small offices, restaurants
and builder show homes. The spaces have ranged from 1,500 sq
ft to 100,000 sq ft. Patricia received a Design Award for her
work on the Grand Prairie Family Dental Clinic; had an article
published in the Dallas Morning News; has given her design seminar,
"Design
Around Your Body Harmony" in many states and
locally and is currently writing a book about it.
Because of her background in art and design, Patricia enjoys
using her talents and skills in designing furniture, cabinetry,
drapery, floor designs, tile designs, area rugs, scaled elevations
and layouts. If a person is a visual person, they may want to
see what something will look like to scale before it is made.
This is where her skills can help them.
In 1985, Patricia saw a need to add to her interior design business
an interior plantscaping business, Total Plantscape. There were
not very many designers that knew anything about interior plants
for residences or commercial buildings. The business sells,
leases and maintains tropical plants in such places of business
as lobbies, offices, property managements and residences. She
is able to use her talents to design interior spaces and large
planters for either live plants or silks. She also furnishes
custom silk plants and arrangements when needed.
